About Maine Coast Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

The Maine Coast Marathon has a long and storied history. The race was first held in 1980 under its original name, the Nike Maine Coast Marathon. The race was discontinued in 1986 as the secret service would not allow the course to pass by a presidential family’s private compound located at a place called Walker’s Point. Thankfully, the race was revived and renamed the Maine Coast Marathon in 2013.

The Maine Coast Marathon continued to grow in popularity in the 1980s. The race attracted even more runners, and it became a fixture on many New England runners’ race calendars. The race was even featured in several running magazines, helping to put Maine on the map as a running destination.

The Maine Coast Marathon is now one of the most popular marathons in Maine. The race attracts over 1,000 runners each year as a great way to experience the beauty of Maine’s coastline. The course starts in Wells Beach and winds its way along the coast through marshes, forests, and farmland. The race finishes at the Wells Harbor Community Park, where runners are greeted with stunning views of a small working waterfront on the Atlantic Ocean
